Mosquitto is a MQTT Broker that can be installed in any type of system environment.
Yes, Mosquitto MQTT installation can be done on your system.

Also, it’s an Open source Eclipse project that implement MQTT protocol 3.1, 3.1.1 and 5.0, which should cover all of your MQTT needs.

Mosquitto MQTT Broker Installation on Windows computer

By following these steps, you will have a functioning MQTT Broker on your Windows machine in no time.

1. Download Mosquitto MQTT Broker

The first step is, obviously, to download the executable from the Mosquitto MQTT official website.

2. Choose the Correct Installer.

Under the Windows sub-section, choose the correct version based on your system x64 or x32.

3. Mosquitto MQTT Installation

Once the file has been downloaded, double click on the executable file (.exe) and it should run the installer.

Click Next once you have closed all of your applications.

Choose the components you want to install. You should also choose to install Mosquitto as a Window service by selecting the Service component.
Then click Next

Choose the installation location. Once selected, click Install.

Tadam! You are done!

 

Manually start the Mosquitto service

If you have installed the Service component, the broker should start automatically with Windows. However, there might be some times where you need to start the service manually.

1. Open Command prompt

Click on Start | All Programs | Accessories | Command Prompt Or click on start and in the search box write : cmd

2. Navigate to Mosquitto root folder

This is the location where you have installed the Mosquitto broker such as C:\Program Files (x86)\mosquitto

3. Start Mosquitto service

Run the command “net start mosquitto”
