The BBQ Sauce

In my humble opinion, it is probably the single most versatile condiment/sauce.
It has multiple use, all of which I use:
1. Marinade.
2. Basting sauce.
3. Table sauce.
For many years I have been buying “off the shelf” BBQ sauce, let me tell you that I have tried a whole bunch of them.
I still use some store bought BBQ sauce sometimes, when I run out of my own sauce and out of time.

However, by making a good homemade sauce, you can control exactly the flavors you want. You know exactly what goes into the sauce, you don’t have any trouble naming the ingredients! And that is a great boon to your health.

Type of BBQ Sauce

Not all BBQ sauces are created equals.
BBQ Sauces comes in variety of flavors depending on where and who created them.
There are some dominant flavours:
1. Sweet.
2. Acidic/Vinegar.
3. Spicy.
4. Smoky.

Conservation

Usually we make much more sauce then we actually need, it can be conserved quite easily conserved in some Mason jars that you will keep in the refrigerator.

My Maple BBQ Sauce

This sauce plays more on the sweetness of the maple syrup and on the spicy taste of the super chillies. It will add a kick to whatever it is added to, from Baby back Ribs to Burgers. The (big) splash of Bourbon will also add a bite to this all purpose sauce.

You don’t have any maple syrup or sugar on hand? Don’t worry there are some good alternatives!
* Replace with the same amount of molasses
* Replace with 3/4 cup of brown sugar
* Replace with 3/4 cup of maple sugar

Let’s conitnue to the real stuf, shall we?

Recipe Notes

* Leting the sauce sit in the fridge for 1 or 2 days will help to let all the flavours stand out.   * Not all maple syrup bottles/cans are created equals. You might end up with a more/less sugary taste. Always taste and rectify!  * There are several flavours of Liquid Smoke. I think that all of them are good but you migth have a preference. Just try them all!  * For a more Steaky flavour, try to add more Worcestershire sauce.  * The sauce can be easily double, tripled, even quadrupled without any issue. (Maximum I did was to quintuple the recipe, I do not have a large enough sauce pan, yet.)
